iShop

What is iShop?

iShop is a multi-users webapp which primary purpose is to replace the traditional paper shopping list. The basic idea comes from the fact that we are many to have a PDA-type terminal capable of opening web pages (iPhone, iPod Touch, Black Berry, HTC, N9x ...) and that we always have the terminal in the pocket ... which is not always the case of a paper shopping list.

For which use iShop has been developed?

iShop allows you to always have your shopping list to a short hand, whether to add a product to your next shopping or to shop. Many products are already in the database, but it is very easy to add your own.

For which use iShop has not been developed?

iShop is not monitoring prices and will not be able to order online. It is not affiliated with any store and therefore does not share their products database, so it is completely independent and adaptable to all situations.

iShop's benefits

iShop has the following advantages:

  1. It is open source, freely editable and freely distributable.
  2. It is not necessary to have its own web server, lapinbleu.ch offers this service.
  3. It is very easy to install on a third
  4. It requires no specific account. Only an FTP account and a MySQL are needed for installation.
  5. It uses dominant technology on the Internet (PHP5 - MySQL5)
  6. It is very fast, optimized and secure.
  7. It is multi-user.
  8. It is developed in object-oriented programming, making it very concise integration and very understandable to the administrator.

iShop's disadvantages

iShop has the following disadvantages:

  1. iShop is an internet application, it depends of your network coverage (WiFi or Edge / 3G). This can sometimes result in the inability to read the shopping lists from certain places. This problem however is worked around by opening the shopping list from the usual WiFi hotspot of the user to save the shopping list in the browser cache.

Planned improvements

  1. Development of a Cocoa Touch client for the iPhone / iPod Touch
  2. Shopping lists sends by PUSH method to compiled client.
  3. Improved ergonomics of the webapp.
  4. Database cleaning
  5. Completion of the database
